Our Story
Life is so short and full of surprises! Amber Dickerson, Founder and CEO of Pearl’s Wisdom LLC, began her natural hair journey because she fell in love with the texture and styles of the naturalistas she met. She loved how women could do almost anything with their hair, while maintaining professional, beautiful, and individualistic looks. For years, she noticed women with natural hairstyles and appreciated their confidence and sophistication. In 2009, Amber decided to cut off her relaxed hair and embrace the natural curls she had never seen. The journey over the last decade has been fun but challenging as there were not very many hair products that catered to the needs of people of color. She spent thousands of dollars trying products that could not combat the negative effects of the dry heat and dust in Arizona. Some moisturized her hair for a time, but the moisture evaporated once she stepped out into the harsh desert heat. She watched videos and read blogs to learn more about her hair and products on the market. Because all the bloggers and vloggers lived in the Southern states or along the East coast, Amber noticed that she would need to find something that worked for extreme weather conditions. Amber researched ingredients that helped to nourish hair and played with combinations to find what worked for her. Amber’s hair began to thrive! Once she found out how to maintain moisture, her hair grew faster, longer, and thicker than she ever knew it could. Friends, family, and even strangers asked what she was doing with her hair and the canned response became, “Oh, I make my own products.” Soon she was sharing with people all over the United States. Amber shared some samples and even sold products, but never took it seriously. She created conditioners, moisturizers, and oil combinations for total hair care need. Next, she began researching and experimenting with essential oils, and created her recipe, now known as her Growth Serum. Over time she developed the moisturizer, shampoo, conditioner, and added rose water to finish her products for use. After spending time developing these products, Amber decided to give her business an official platform.
Amber decided the company’s name would need to pay homage to her grandmother, Susie Pearl Davis. Since she was born, her grandmother modeled all the behaviors of a real woman in Amber’s eyes. She is kind, gentle, loving and nurturing. She is also independent, strong, and fierce for all the right reasons. She traveled with Ms. Susie Pearl from the moment she could walk. She guided Amber through some tough, life choices and helped her transition to the person she is today. Additionally, they share the same hair type and texture. For years, Amber watched Ms. Susie sit in salon chairs, until one day the wrong stylist relaxed her soft, cottony hair. Her locks were never the same after and Amber never saw her sit in another salon chair. Her press and curl styles we replaced by a short afro, but Amber never thought she looked more beautiful. Like her grandmother, Amber had her own horror stories about allowing the wrong people in her hair. She learned to care for her tresses to battle the abuse they received while in the hands of others. Amber’s friends and family encouraged her, but she had to get to a place where she trusted her journey enough focus and bet on herself. Now is the time. A wife and mother of two boys, Amber envisions building a legacy of which her boys can benefit for generations to come.
